What was life like before the internet? Seriously, think about how you would go about your daily life without the use of internet. It’s mind-boggling to think how much the internet is incorporated into our daily lives.
Without the internet, people would have more of a difficult time managing their finances, buying a car, searching for a job, and communicating with people- just to name a few.
The internet revolutionised the world and essentially changed the way people live. Now that virtually everything is available just a couple clicks away, people can accomplish more and work at a faster pace. Our minds have been kicked into “fast-paced/over-drive” mode.
These are a list of things that we would not be able to do without the internet.
Before the internet:
- Balancing your check-book meant waiting for your statements to come from the bank
- Google/Yahoo didn’t exist, which meant research was done with the help of books
- You used a phonebook to look-up numbers
- Finding out who won a sports game meant waiting for the next day’s newspaper to arrive
- You actually knew all your friends, there was no such thing as “virtual friends”.
- Finding a book in the library meant looking through little cards in a card catalogue
- Talking to multiple friends at the same time required that you all be in the same room
- There was no such thing as Facebook or twitter, so you couldn’t stalk or check-up on friends, boyfriends, girlfriends, or your creepy co-worker.
- To buy music, you had to physically go to a store and buy a cassette, tape, or cd.
- People could not entertain themselves for hours watching funny YouTube clips.
And to think that people predicted it was just a fad…
